| Transportation Security Administration Holiday List |
- Double check the contents of your pockets, bags and carry-on luggage to ensure no prohibited items were inadvertently packed. Lighters, firearms or other weapons are prohibited as carry-on items.
- Firearms placed in checked bags must be properly declared to your airline.
- Get to the airport in plenty of time.
- Take laptops and video cameras out of their cases.
- Do not wrap gifts.
- Do not pack fragile or valuable items in checked baggage. Ship or take them with you in carry-on baggage.
- Put undeveloped film in carry-on baggage. Checked baggage screening equipment will damage film.
- You are NOT REQUIRED to remove your shoes. However, many types of footwear with metal, or thick soles or heels, may require additional screening even if the metal detector DOES NOT alarm.
- Do not over pack bags. Closing overstuffed bags can be difficult and may result in that checked bag being delayed.
- Do not lock your bag unless you use a TSA-accepted lock.
- Passengers selected for additional screening have the right to request it be done in a private location.

| Five Cures for “Business Traveler’s Blues” this Holiday |
The holidays are filled with good food and good times with family and friends. But for business travelers, being away from home during the holidays can cause a serious case of the blues, according to Dr. David Weiman, a management psychologist in suburban Philadelphia.
“Many business travelers feel lonely and disconnected from loved ones when they’re away from home,” Weiman explains. “And during the holidays, those feelings can be particularly intense."
Weiman has these suggestions to help business travelers enjoy the holidays while they’re working on the road:
1) Plan in advance. Many business travelers find themselves alone away from home because they didn’t plan a holiday activity in advance. If you’re traveling with others from the same company, arrange a holiday dinner together. If traveling alone, try to re-connect with old college friends or school alumni now living in your destination city.
2) Keep in touch! Call and e-mail family and friends while you’re away to send holiday greetings and get caught up on the latest news from back home. Scheduling these calls for a specific time will give you something to look forward to.
3) Stick to your exercise routines. If you usually walk after dinner at home, do that on the road, as well. If you have a specific exercise class or weight lifting schedule, book a hotel that either has an exercise room or is near a gym that you can use. If you’re a swimmer, find a pool where you can do your regular workout.
4) Do something special. Every city has something unique to offer. Visit a local art museum, enjoy a concert or take a scenic tour. It will enhance your travel experience and give you holiday memories of your own to share when you return home.
5) Give something back. Organizations that depend on volunteers -- like hospitals, shelters, and nursing homes -- often need more volunteers over the holidays. Volunteering for a local group while you’re traveling on business can connect you with people you would have never met, and give you the satisfaction of contributing to others over the holidays.
”It’s definitely more challenging to enjoy the holidays when you’re traveling for business,” Weiman notes, “But with a little advance planning, you can accomplish your business goals and have a great time while you’re at it!”

Beginning next year, passengers traveling with Scandinavian Airlines International will be able to sleep tight during flights. The new seat permits better comfort and a more private space than traditional seats. The total space for every passenger will increase and when the seat is folded out into sleeping position it will not interfere with passengers in the row behind.
Besides the possibility for comfortable sleep in the seat, there are many exclusive features. The viewing screen, which is fixed in the seat in front, is extra large and includes a video with on demand-functionalities. This means that the passengers themselves can choose when to and how to use the entertainment supplied. Also, there is a clever storage built-in the seats for lap-tops and maybe a bottle of water.Scandinavian Airlines International has developed the seats together with Contour Premium Aircraft Seating, while Acumen has designed the next generation airline seats.

Beginning December 22, airline travelers can expect to see more random screenings, fewer prohibited items and a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) workforce more dedicated to detecting and defeating more serious threats, such as explosives.
The specific changes include more additional screenings of passengers and their bags using a variety of methods selected at random. Passengers will also once again be able to carry small tools and scissors on-board aircraft.
Passengers will continue to walk through a metal detector and have their carry-on and checked baggage screened. However, these measures may now include a brief additional search of their person or their property. Examples of this additional screening include: explosive screening of shoes, hand-wanding of passengers, enhanced pat down searches and inspections of carry-on bags. These searches will be generated at random and will take only about a minute to complete. They will allow Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) to better screen passengers for explosives and other threats to the aviation system.
Beginning December 22, scissors with a cutting edge of four inches or less and tools such as screwdrivers, wrenches and pliers smaller than seven inches will be permitted on board. Scissors longer than four inches and tools such as crowbars, drills, hammers, and saws will continue to be prohibited from carry-on bags. Lighters will continue to be banned from the cabin of aircraft and in checked baggage.
In addition to these changes, the agency’s 43,000 Transportation Security Screeners have been re-classified as Transportation Security Officers (TSOs). This new classification illustrates that TSOs will be more empowered than ever before to use their knowledge and training to detect and defeat terrorists and to focus their attention to areas where the threat is greatest. |
