HAPPY 100TH BIRTHDAY LAS VEGAS!
Las Vegas is in the midst of its Centennial. Las Vegas, called Clark's Las Vegas Townsite at the time, was born on May 15, 1905 when 110 acres of land were auctioned by the railroad. The area's boundaries were Stewart Avenue to the north, Garces Avenue to the south, Main Street to the west and Fifth Street (Las Vegas Boulevard) to the east.

A plethora of activities and events have been planned to commemorate the Centennial. Here are some of the activities you can expect to see throughout 2005.

American Airlines Unveils First Phase Of New $1.1 Billion Terminal At JFK Airport
This summer, American Airlines will open Phase 1 of a new, state-of-the-art, world-class terminal at John F. Kennedy International Airport, designed to make domestic and international travel easier and more convenient for the millions of passengers who pass through the airport each year.

The new facility, covering nearly 1.5 million square feet, will further strengthen JFK's position as one of the nation's foremost U.S. airports and international gateways.

The new terminal will make it as easy and convenient as possible for American's customers to travel, with a strong focus on helping customers move quickly through the arrival and security process. When fully operational - the second and final phase is scheduled to be completed by April 2007 -- the new terminal will have 101 ticketing positions, 10 security lanes capable of processing nearly 1,925 passengers per hour, a new baggage system that makes checking and claiming bags more efficient, and a new Customs and Border Patrol facility. For travelers looking to catch up on business or have a relaxing spot to rest, there will be two new Admirals Clubs, in Concourse B and Concourse C.

Hotel Guest Satisfaction is Up, Despite Rising Room Rates and Increased Occupancies
Customer satisfaction in the hotel industry is up, according to the J.D. Power and Associates 2005 North America Hotel Guest Satisfaction Index StudySM released.

Consumers appear to appreciate the value of new product and service offerings being introduced by many hotel chains, as increases in overall guest satisfaction are being driven by improvements in the measures of food and beverage, costs and fees (value of services) and hotel services.

"As the travel industry continues to rebound from the post-9/11 travel slump, hotel chains have benefited from the ability to invest significant funds to renovate guest rooms, enhance room amenities and improve food and beverage offerings," said Linda Hirneise, partner in the global travel and hospitality practice at J.D. Power and Associates. "The key is in adding the kinds of value-added services guests really want."

While many brands push the envelope to introduce new amenities and innovations such as satellite radio or Internet check-in, the study finds that brands that improve on offerings in the tried-and-true comforts of home that make for a convenient in-room experience tend to receive considerable boosts in customer satisfaction scores. Amenities of particular interest to consumers include a complimentary breakfast, in-room refrigerators and coffee makers, pillow top mattresses and high-speed Internet access.
